Ionic Air Purifiers and Ozone Safety
One of the exciting ways Alen is helping people Live Better is with Ozone Safe Ionizers in our air purifiers.
An Ionizer is an electrical device which emits positive and negative charges into the air, causing particles to stick together and become larger. This process allows for Alen True HEPA Air Purifiers such as the BreatheSmart 75i to catch a larger number of airborne particles more easily.

Air purifiers with Ionizers should not be confused with Ozone Air Purifiers, which use ozone to clean the air and create or emit hazardous ozone.
What is the difference between Air Purifiers with an Ionizer and Ozone Air Purifiers?
Negative ions are atoms which have gained an electron or two, giving them a small electric charge. Used alone, negative ionizers are not effective in removing particles from the air. However, True HEPA air purifiers with an incorporated ionizer provide a more efficient means of trapping airborne irritants on the filter—similar to dust on a television screen. All Alen True HEPA Air Purifiers include an optional Ozone Safe Ionizer and use this method for improving filtration efficiency. Many confuse Ozone Safe Ionizer Air Purifiers with Ozone Generating Air Purifiers. It is important to ensure any air purifiers you place in your home do not contribute to unsafe levels of ozone. Ozone is a highly reactive form of oxygen that is beneficial in the upper atmosphere, where it shields the Earth's surface from the sun's harmful ultraviolet light. However, ozone in the Earth's lower atmosphere, where we live and breathe, is a harmful air pollutant. Breathing ozone may cause damage to lung, throat, and nasal tissue.
