A sleep-validated air purifier is an air purifier that has been independently evaluated to determine how its use may support sleep quality in real-world bedroom environments. Alen's current BreatheSmart lineup is SleepScore validated, combining medical-grade HEPA filtration with quiet operation and smart technology to help create a cleaner, more comfortable sleep environment.
Better sleep starts before your head hits the pillow.
Most people think about sleep in terms of routines, bedding, room temperature, light exposure, and noise. All of those matter. But the air you breathe all night matters, too. Your bedroom is not just a place where you rest. It is a space where your body spends hours recovering, breathing, and responding to the environment around you.
That is why Alen has invested in more than filtration claims. We believe a home air purifier should not only move air through a filter. It should support the way people actually live, breathe, and rest in their homes.
To help validate that connection, Alen partnered with SleepScore Labs to evaluate the real-world impact of Alen air purifiers on sleep. The result is a meaningful distinction: Alen BreatheSmart air purifiers are SleepScore validated, giving customers confidence that their purifier has been evaluated not only for clean air performance, but also for its role in creating a better bedroom environment.
Today, that validation extends across Alen’s current BreatheSmart line: the 25i, 35i, 45i, and 75i.
Why Sleep Validation Matters
Air purifier performance is often described in technical terms: CADR, square-foot coverage, HEPA filtration, airflow, decibel levels, and sensor technology. These are important measurements. They help explain how efficiently a purifier can clean the air in a defined space.
But technical specifications only tell part of the story.
People do not buy air purifiers because they want a spec sheet. They buy them because they want to breathe easier, sleep more comfortably, reduce airborne irritants, and feel better in the spaces where they spend the most time.
Sleep validation helps connect product performance to real-life experience. It asks a different question: Does cleaner air in the bedroom help support better sleep?
That question matters because sleep is one of the most personal and measurable indicators of indoor wellness. When airborne particles, allergens, odors, and irritants are present in the bedroom, they can contribute to congestion, sneezing, coughing, irritation, and nighttime discomfort. For people with allergies or sensitivities, those disruptions can make sleep feel lighter, shorter, or less restorative.
Alen’s SleepScore validation helps demonstrate that air purification can be part of a healthier sleep environment.
What SleepScore Validation Shows
SleepScore Labs evaluated Alen air purifiers in real-world bedroom environments using both objective sleep measurement and participant feedback. In the most recent validation study, participants slept in their usual bedrooms for four weeks without an air purifier, followed by four weeks using the Alen BreatheSmart 25i. Objective sleep was measured with SleepScore Max, a validated, non-contact sleep monitor that tracks sleep duration, sleep stages, awakenings, sleep efficiency, and other commonly used sleep metrics.
The analysis included 1,097 nights of objective sleep data from 28 participants. Compared with nights without an air purifier, participants using the BreatheSmart 25i experienced a 2% increase in overall SleepScore and a 4% increase in total sleep duration. On average, they slept 16 minutes longer per night. Over the course of a month, that translates to approximately eight additional hours of sleep, roughly the equivalent of one extra full night of sleep each month.
The study also found measurable improvements in sleep quality. Participants averaged five additional minutes of REM sleep per night, a 7% increase that adds up to approximately two and a half additional hours of REM sleep per month. MindScore, SleepScore Labs’ age- and gender-adjusted measure of REM sleep, increased by 4%. Participants also spent an 11% lower proportion of the night awake after initially falling asleep and showed a statistically significant improvement in sleep maintenance, indicating more consistent sleep throughout the night.
Self-reported results reinforced the objective findings. The percentage of participants who felt it was easy to fall asleep increased from 68% without an air purifier to 100% while using the BreatheSmart 25i. The percentage reporting high-quality sleep increased from 28% to 80%, while the percentage satisfied with their sleep increased from 16% to 88%.
Participants also reported meaningful improvements in how they felt the next morning. The percentage who felt well-rested increased from 36% to 84%, and the percentage who woke feeling refreshed increased from 36% to 88%. Daily questionnaire results showed a 19% improvement in feeling refreshed upon waking and a 16% improvement in perceived sleep quality.
Among the 88% of participants who reported allergies, discomfort from allergy symptoms declined substantially. The percentage experiencing allergy-related discomfort fell from 82% without an air purifier to 27% with the BreatheSmart 25i. Participants also reported a 64% decrease in the severity of their allergy discomfort and experienced symptoms on approximately one fewer night per week.
At the end of the study, 88% of participants felt the BreatheSmart 25i helped improve their sleep, 96% felt it helped improve their air quality, and 80% said they felt more relaxed before going to sleep with it running. Every participant said they planned to continue using the purifier, and 100% said they would recommend it to friends, family, or coworkers.
These findings build on Alen’s earlier SleepScore research involving the BreatheSmart 45i. In that study, 93% of participants felt the purifier improved their sleep, 96% felt it improved their allergy symptoms, and 100% said they would recommend it to close friends and family.
Together, the studies show why SleepScore validation goes beyond a traditional air purifier performance claim. Alen home air purifiers were evaluated where customers actually use them, in real bedrooms, over hundreds of nights. The results included both measurable changes in sleep and meaningful improvements in how participants perceived their sleep, allergy comfort, air quality, and morning restfulness.

Beyond HEPA: Validating the Bedroom Experience
HEPA filtration is essential. Alen BreatheSmart air purifiers are built to capture airborne particles such as dust, pollen, pet dander, mold spores, and other common indoor pollutants. But a bedroom air purifier also has to do more than filter well.
It has to be livable.
A bedroom air purifier must be quiet enough to run while you sleep. It must be powerful enough to clean the air in the room. It must be simple enough to use consistently. It should adapt to changing air quality without demanding constant attention.
That is why Alen designs air purifiers around the full experience of clean air. BreatheSmart purifiers combine strong airflow, HEPA filtration, smart sensor technology, color-coded air quality feedback, app control, and quiet operation. They are also tuned to produce a soothing sound profile that supports the sleep environment instead of disrupting it.
SleepScore validation is valuable because it looks beyond the filter alone. It supports the idea that the right purifier can become part of a nightly wellness routine.
Four Air Purifiers. One Validation Standard.
Every home is different. A nursery does not need the same purifier as an open-concept living room. A small bedroom has different airflow needs than a large primary suite. That is why Alen offers four current BreatheSmart models, each designed for a different room size and use case.
What they share is the same core purpose: deliver cleaner air in a quieter, smarter, more livable way.
BreatheSmart 25i: Sleep Support for Small Rooms
The BreatheSmart 25i is designed for smaller spaces such as bedrooms, nurseries, dorm rooms, and home offices. It purifies up to 400 square feet every 30 minutes or up to 800 square feet every hour.
That makes the 25i a strong choice for people who want clean air close to where they sleep, study, work, or unwind. Its compact size allows it to fit easily into smaller rooms without overwhelming the space.
For sleep, the 25i is especially useful in rooms where quiet operation and consistent air cleaning matter. In a nursery, guest room, or apartment bedroom, it can help reduce airborne particles while maintaining a calm environment throughout the night.
The 25i includes Wi-Fi compatibility, a color-changing air quality ring, and AirID, giving users more visibility and control over their indoor air.

BreatheSmart 35i: Bedroom Performance With More Coverage
The BreatheSmart 35i is built for bedrooms, home offices, nurseries, dorms, and other small-to-medium spaces. It purifies up to 700 square feet every 30 minutes or up to 1,400 square feet every hour.
For many households, the 35i is an ideal bedroom purifier because it offers a larger coverage range while maintaining a quiet, compact profile. It is especially useful for people who want a stronger purifier for a primary bedroom, a child’s room, or a bedroom with higher activity from pets, dust, or outdoor allergens.
The 35i includes Wi-Fi compatibility, AirID, and a color-changing air quality ring, so users can see air quality changes and manage purification more easily.
For nighttime use, the 35i provides the balance many sleepers need: more airflow than a small-room purifier, but still sized for everyday bedroom use.

Why Bedroom Air Quality Affects Sleep
During sleep, your body is still actively responding to the environment around you. If the air contains pollen, dust, pet dander, smoke particles, mold spores, or odors, those irritants may affect comfort throughout the night.
For allergy sufferers, airborne particles can contribute to nasal congestion, irritated airways, sneezing, coughing, or postnasal drip. Even mild symptoms can interrupt sleep or make mornings feel less refreshed.
Cleaner air cannot replace medical care, and an air purifier is not a treatment for sleep disorders. But it can help reduce common airborne irritants in the bedroom, which may make the sleep environment feel more comfortable.
That is the practical value of using an Alen purifier while you sleep. It works continuously in the background, pulling in air, filtering out particles, and returning cleaner air to the room.

How Alen Combines Clean Air, Quiet Operation, and Smart Control
A purifier only helps if people actually use it. That is why Alen designs its BreatheSmart purifiers for continuous, everyday operation.
Each model is built to run quietly, making it suitable for bedrooms and other restful spaces. Smart sensor technology helps the purifier respond to changes in air quality, while the color-changing ring gives a quick visual cue about the room’s current air status.
Wi-Fi compatibility and app control add another layer of convenience. Users can manage their purifier more easily, monitor air quality, and make adjustments without disrupting their routine.
AirID also helps connect users more closely to their indoor air. Instead of guessing what is happening in a room, Alen gives people a clearer understanding of air quality changes and purifier performance.
This matters at night because air quality is not static. A bedroom can be affected by open windows, pets, cleaning products, cooking odors, outdoor pollution, smoke, humidity, and daily dust buildup. A smart purifier helps respond to those changes automatically.
Choosing the Right Sleep-Validated Alen Purifier
The best Alen purifier for sleep depends on room size and how the space is used.
For small bedrooms, nurseries, and dorm rooms, the BreatheSmart 25i offers compact, quiet purification with smart features. For standard bedrooms and home offices, the BreatheSmart 35i provides more coverage while remaining easy to place. For larger bedrooms and medium open spaces, the BreatheSmart 45i offers stronger airflow and the closest connection to Alen’s original SleepScore validation study. For large bedrooms, open-concept homes, and shared living areas, the BreatheSmart 75i delivers the highest coverage in the current BreatheSmart line.
The goal is not simply to buy the largest purifier. The goal is to choose the model that fits the room, supports continuous operation, and gives you confidence that your air is being cleaned while you rest.
What SleepScore Validation Means for Alen Customers
SleepScore validation gives Alen customers something more meaningful than a marketing promise.
It reflects independent evaluation of how Alen air purifiers can support sleep in real homes. It shows that clean air performance, quiet operation, and bedroom usability can work together to create a better sleep environment.
For Alen, this validation reinforces a broader commitment: to design air purifiers that support wellness in the spaces where life happens. Bedrooms. Nurseries. Home offices. Living rooms. Shared family spaces.
Clean air should not be complicated. It should be quiet, consistent, visible, and easy to trust.
That is why Alen tested its air purifiers for sleep performance. Because better air is not just about what a purifier removes from the room. It is about what cleaner air helps make possible.
A calmer bedroom. Easier breathing. Fewer disruptions. And ultimately, a better way to rest…that’s Utopiair!
