Figuring out what’s in the air around you has reached a whole new level. Let us introduce airID—the latest innovation from Alen Air. airID is powered by AI and designed to give you real-time insights into the pollutants floating around your home. What does this technology mean for you? It isn’t just about filtering the air—it redefines how we monitor and manage air quality. Alen’s BreatheSmart 35i features airID that delivers real-time pollutant identification and air quality monitoring. Voila! Based on this information, you can take action to enhance your indoor air. With the new BreatheSmart 35i, you’re in full control of your indoor air quality like never before.
What is airID?
Exactly as the name implies, airID identifies what’s in your air. It uses AI and sensor capabilities to scan the air for contaminants. airID uses inputs from the 35i’s onboard sensors—for particulates, Total Volatile Organic Compounds, CO2, temperature, and humidity—combines them with external inputs and location data to make an assessment in real time about the type of particulate in the air. Genius! For instance, say airID identifies pollen in your air, and your geographic location has been entered in the app. The airID feature can assess whether pollen in your location is at an elevated level or range. Why is this important? With a deeper understanding of what’s in your air, you can proactively take steps to better manage your air quality.

What Pollutants Does it Identify?
Currently, airID can identify five common pollutants—each of which has certain implications you may want to know about. The app provides in-depth information about these common pollutants. This article provides a quick guide on these pollutants, why you may want to know about them in your air, and solutions to reducing the pollutants and improving your air quality.
1. Dander
![]()
Dander consists of tiny skin flakes shed by animals with fur or feathers, such as cats, dogs, and birds. When airborne, it can act as an indoor pollutant, often triggering allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. Since the immune system mistakenly treats dander as a harmful substance, symptoms of overexposure to dander include sneezing, itchy eyes, congestion, coughing, and wheezing. airID will identify this pollutant, perhaps prompting you to use an Alen air purifier with a Essential filter to capture dander or increase your air purifier’s fan speed.
2. Pollen
![]()
Pollen is a fine powder released by plants—especially trees, grasses, and weeds—as part of their reproductive process. Airborne pollen can trigger allergic reactions like sneezing, itchy eyes, and congestion due to the release of histamine in sensitive individuals. If identified, you can minimize exposure by keeping windows and doors closed on high pollen days and increase your air purifier’s fan speed to filter out the pollen particles.
3. Smoke
![]()
Smoke, typically from burning materials like wood or candles in your home, can irritate the lungs and airways, leading to coughing, shortness of breath, asthma, and bronchitis. It contains harmful particles and chemicals that can negatively affect your health and the environment. When light concentrations of smoke are in your air, consider using an Alen air purifier together with a Advanced filter containing activated carbon to reduce the smoke and smoky odor from the environment.
4. Fire
![]()
Fire is a chemical reaction known as combustion, which occurs when a material rapidly oxides, producing heat, light, and various gasses. Fire can vary in size and intensity—from small flames like a candle to large, destructive property fires and can spread quickly if not controlled. The Alen BreatheSmart 35i monitors air quality and temperature. If PM levels are extremely elevated and the temperature rises above 129.5°F, the Alen air app will indicate the potential for fire.
What’s the implication for you? Human exposure to fire can result in harmful particles entering your eyes and the respiratory system, leading to potential health issues, such as eye, nose, and throat irritation, a runny nose, coughing, and shortness of breath. We recommend that if you suspect a fire, immediately check your surroundings for any signs of smoke or flames. Please note that your Alen air purifier is not intended as a replacement for smoke or fire alarms.
5. Smog
![]()
Smog is a type of air pollution created when pollutants from cars, factories, and other sources mix with sunlight. It appears as a thick, hazy fog and contains harmful chemicals and particles that can irritate the eyes, throat, and lungs. Smog can potentially cause breathing difficulties, asthma, and bronchitis. When smog is present, you should keep doors and windows closed, increase the fan speed on your air purifier, and consider using an Alen air purifier with a Advanced filter to reduce urban pollution in your indoor environment.
How to Access airID Info via the App
Our airID technology is currently used in the BreatheSmart 35i and is easy to use through the Alen air app. Notifications for airID are set to “on” by default, but can be toggled off if you prefer. The two main ways to find information on a detected pollutant in the app are as follows:

From the Dashboard:
- When a pollutant is detected, an animated icon of the pollutant will appear on the dashboard.
- Tap the airID icon to access a list of devices.
- The icon on the air purifier that detects the pollutant will be highlighted.
- Tap the airID icon again to see basic information about the detected pollutant.
- Select “Know More” to open the full info panel for detailed insights on that pollutant.

From the Device Details Screen:
- Tap the card of the air purifier in the app to open the device details screen.
- Animations representing the pollutants will be visible.
- Tap the airID icon to see basic information about the detected pollutant.
- Tap “Know More” to access detailed information related to the specific pollutant that the purifier detects.
